I'm trying to download an attatchment from an email (I use a hotmail address) I recieved to my computer (I have windows vista). This works fine and says that the download is completed. However, when I look for the file it is not where I downloaded it to. When I do a file search on my computer it only turns up in the Recent Items Folder. When I click on it here to try and open it, it comes up with a message that shortcuts are missing. How do I solve this problem?

What browser are you using, and what is the attachment (picture, program, document, etc)? Are you selecting "Open" or "Save As" when you click on the attachment?

Certain browsers, like Firefox and Google Chrome, allow you to specify a folder for saving downloads into a specific location.

I use windows explorer as my browser and the attatchment is a picture. I have tried both saving the file and opening it, but neither works.

I would recommend doing a full reset on your Internet Explorer.

Go to Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Tab - look for "Reset" and "Restore Advanced Settings".

Can you try opening any other types of attachments? Open any web page that has a picture on it, right-click on the picture and say "Save As". Give it a location, and then see if it saved properly.

If you are still having issues, my company is available for remote support and can assist further.

Thanks!

I reset my browser as suggested. Afterwards I am now able to right click, save as, a picture but still can not download any of my email attatchments.

Who is your email provider? If web based, you may need to add it as a "Trusted Site".

To do that, look in the bottom row of Internet Explorer (close to your clock). You should see a globe icon. Double click there, then click on the green Trusted Sites icon. Select "Sites", and then add the address. It may be necessary to uncheck the 'requires https' check box. Also, you can add an entire domain easily by entering a *.domain.com (ex: *.hotmail.com).

Once completed, close ALL Internet Explorer windows, reopen and log back into your email, and try again.

Thanks for your help. I from Internet Explorer 7 to Google Chrome and this seems to have solved the problem so far. My computer seems to have problems with Internet Explorer as even upgrading to version 8 hasn't worked.
